Hi all! Just found this forum today and glad to have found you all. I had something very frightening happen while biking last week. I was on a country road with no shoulder in the southbound lane. Three deer came to cross the opposite side of the road so I stopped. No sooner, a truck was coming in the opposite direction (northbound lane) at about 50 mph and I had no time to think. I realized if the truck struck the deer it would likely launch the deer right into my lane!! And sure enough, the deer walked out and the truck picked the thing up and threw it directly into my lane, missing me by INCHES. The deer laid to rest a good 25 feet behind me, so it tells you how fast/far the truck hit it. Has anyone ever had this happen?? We have so many deer out here you see hit on the sides of the road. I have never been more scared on my bike.
I just read the thread on dogs....now I may have a new paranoia to add! LOL Sheesh...the things you can't forsee or control are the worst. I suppose we have the same dangers in a car - but you are so vulnerable out there on a bike. Has anyone ever had a mishap with deer on their bike?

p.s. Forgot to mention, I was showered with the shattered headlight of the truck...the driver never even bothered to stop. Nice huh?

Thank you for the welcome....do you know how I can search the forum to find the thread on deer? I couldn't find a search engine when I looked around...maybe I didn't see it.
Thanks!

Welcome to here!
Here is the dear thread: http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=9946.
What a jerk that truck drive was. Did he see you?
“Hey, clearly failure doesn’t deter me!”
Not every driver is a jerk. Remember, it takes a lot longer (time and distance) to stop a larger, heavier vehicle. Giving him the question of the doubt, maybe he couldn't stop in time and didn't want to risk swerving or topping.Originally Posted by pooks
Now, why he didn't stop is anyone's guess. He may not have even noticed a cyclist on the opposite side of the road.
