boy, i hope so!
when we go out in the rain, we use lights and lights. I don't imagine they could get away with selling them if they weren't good in the rain!!

Hi -- I haven't been able to find the answer to this question in my owner's manual or on Lights&Motion's website: do any of you who have the Arc Li-on headlight know if it's OK to use it in the rain without damaging the lamp and/or battery? Or do any of you have a high quality light that you can use in the rain? I mean a light that lets you see, not just be seen. Portions of the trail I ride are pitch dark before dawn. Thanks!

Rain - what's rain?![]()
I have the L&M Vega and have used it in the rain.

I use a Cygolite NIMH I think the Night Rover Model. It has 12W, is a dual, cost under $100, worked well for its first season. 90% of my 18 mile commute is on an unlighted trail. Might be a good alternative if you are worried about your lamp.

Since I paid so much for the light, I didn't want to fry it. Thanks!!!

If you're really worried about it, you can rubber band a plastic bag over it as protection from the wet. I never bothered with my NiteRider 15W and commuted a couple times in some pretty torrential downpours.

I have a Planet Bike Alias 10w, and have used it in the rain with no problem.
Even my home-brew lighting system has tolerated down-pours. I would expect any commercial system to work at least as well.
My SO has a Light and Motion ARC which he uses for night mtb riding. Its been through two full British winters and it can most definitely cope with rain!![]()
Also hail, snow, slush, mud, grit, being dunked in puddles and crashed into trees (wouldn't recommend the last two though!). They're pretty bomb proof. Winters coming round again - oh joy!

Thanks, all, for the replies. I won't baby the light so much now. Yesterday, I used my second-best light in the rain and visibility wasn't that great.

Is there not something fundamentally wrong with a bike light that doesn't work in the rain?
In the UK we would have legal consumer protection that would cover this - ie the article isn't fit for the purpose it was sold for. But then it rains a lot here![]()
Don't know if this helps![]()

Bruno -- I was just being over-protective of the light! No worries now.

We have these exact lights... we bought them at the beginning of our autumn/winter (march) and have used them in the rain without any probs. I would be really disappointed if they didnt stand up to rainOriginally Posted by mickchick

we have had some problems with DH's (these are the HID lights). His globe has gone twice, but mine's been fine. Luckily the bike shop has been fine about replacing it, cos these little babies are expensive over here![]()
Having said that, they made me feel very confident riding in the dark. Wasnt worried once. And friends are planning to borrow them for a 24 mountain bike ride here next month.
Hope this helps.
