I am personally horrified, shocked and offended. Testosterone poisoning isn't merely a condition, it's a disease and those afflicted should be treated with due respect and consideration.

And of course, when we overtake a woman, or a guy who hasn't done the smug smile thing, we handle it differently ... right? I think I did it right, once at least. I spun my way up a hill past a woman who was hauling a kid in a trailer plus a few more extra pounds than I carry. Instead of grinning to myself I called out how impressed I was by her, because I was having enough troubly hauling myself up that hill. She smiled and called back thanks for the encouragement. Now that's where I really feel we women are entitled to smile smugly back at guys with testosterone poisoning, and we don't even have to pass them to do it. Even us hill slugs can get the poison-free riding style right.

I had a very similar experience... fellow passed me when I was lazing on the flat, "on your left!" and I went by him on the next hill...same (but laughing) utterance... I think I added, "I love this hill!~" and then I cut over to the bike path for my cool-down last mile and he came up beside me and asked, "just what kind of bike *is* that?" [and it was the 7500FX, which was novel then... not the Xtra and we had a nice conversation.
So, sometimes it's not poison - but he did have to slow down and wander down the path... a serious testosteritis case coudln't have done that...

Unless there's a reason to be mean - and even then - I just say 'hello', 'good morning', or something similar when I pass.

However I'm going out on a hills rep ride right now and I can tell you I won't say hello to every person I pass because that could take a while. Lots of cyclists around here...

DH and a girlfriend and me were cycling Monday and we went 40 miles with lots of hills. I was in the back. At one point a racer roadie guy in full garb splendor zoomed past us all, but he was very friendly and said "I knew I would find some others out on this fine day!" as he passed. Very nice guy.
