    Thank you!

On another thread somebody/ies recommended bandanas for that purpose, and that struck me as the perfect thing to have on hand. I keep remembering them at all the wrong moments, and now you've reminded me at a time when I can actually do something about buying some!

hehehe.... I sometimes deliberately leave my lock at home - to stop myself from being able to pop into any store or shop along the way where I'll be bound to spend my hard-earned $$$! After all, if I do that how will I ever save up for that new road bike I've been dreaming of?

I think I'd have a different take on locks if I was only using my bike for fitness and knew that I'd be coming home after my ride. More often than not, I have a destination and know that there's a decent chance that I won't be able to bring my bike in with me.
