    yes

Fish-thanks for your reply!!! With news stories from the US, i like to ask you ladies your thoughts as you're not the media & don't have to sell millions of papers or keep viewers entertained.

The lower income component of the city is no longer there. Those people made up an important part of the culture.
I've not done much research into this but what's the attitude towards these people in thier adopted cities? Has thier life or lives improved & are the locals still happy to have them there? Are they still in the same situation they were before???

Good to hear you helped out in whatever way you could.

Night ladies, have a good day.

I heard yesterday that Houston absorbed 20,000 students into their school system! I haven't heard much about how people are doing wherever they have settled. I'm hoping that this mess provided an opportunity to start over and that that opportunity was taken advantage of.

    "My" Storm

Nothing, absolutely nothing, maybe a couple sprinkles. Gorgeous and clear today. Here's a picture of Dill under an umbrella when I was determined to get everyone outside for their daily outing, even though the radar looked bad!

    Close Up

It's hard to get a good pic of Dill- every time he'd hear the auto focus, he'd pop out of his hole like Whack A Mole and shake his head, right when the shutter clicked.

I have been hearing serious unhappy rumblings from Houston (the city that absorbed the biggest piece of NO refugees). Their murder, suicide and crime rate is way up.
It is very sad, but this kind of refugee has even more trouble starting over than normal ones; because their lives were messed up before.

I know that here in Seattle, we have a few, and from time to time they are featured in articles, mostly sunny I guess.
A recent article in the New york times suggests that the kids are still having trouble because their parents are too.
Here's one of the articles I recently found:

Hello all. I'm back from a 5 day vacation, and it only took me 2.5 hours to catch up on TD. Have yet to catch up on "Open", but "Bike Maintenance" was minimal. Congrats to FishDr/BeeDr on the new job! I'm happy that Maizy is eating again, and I love Dill's new Swiss Army crate.

The vacation was spent in Missouri, with 3 days at Lake of the Ozarks. Not what I'd pick for a vacation, but the purpose was to spend time with family (parents, sister, and the German contingent). I waterskied a couple times and watched a water snake eating a fish (very slow process).

    Other random notes:
Carving letters out of kiwi fruit is harder than one might think. I should have asked for advice from our NZ contingent. The fruit spelled "Baden" (the name of my brand-new nephew) and went on top of a pecan pie. I assume that Baden got a taste about a day after his mother ate the pie. Big brother Nolan ate 3 letters.

Dropped son at college last week. I'm officially an empty-nester now.

Fall is here. My morning commute started at 50F, and required a midway stop to remove the kneewarmers and wind vest.

    I love fall, but...

it's the danged winter that comes after. Well, let's all put our fingers in our ears and pretend that won't happen this year! La-la-la! Everybody sing along!

Fish/Bee--you must be heading to Kalifohrnia soon, right?! I am so jealous that you get to meet all those TE gals and their guys and fry (thinking of the PP). Stories! Pictures! Eagerly awaited.

Nanci--great pictures of the beasts. I had no idea Maisey was so big. I wonder what it is about the sap that makes the snakes fall off the tree.

Deb--I'd think kiwi would be a very difficult carving medium. Congrats on the new baby in the family!

I caught a baby at ~1AM, got some sleep, but am about to confine the cats to the kitchen and catch some more zzzzs. See y'all later.

(PS Nanci, I heard that about the wattle! Let's see Mr. Lovely Tennis Player finish 25 Ironman tris, win 10 of them, and we'll check his lovely skin, eh?!? )

Knotted - uhhh...the project was called "Project Backpack" and no, I'm not the pajama person.

Lise - I head to SF on Saturday. I'm bringing my camera, but I'm sure some of the other ladies will have a camera and will post pics before I return. I can't wait! Especially now that I get to celebrate my new job!

Our weather is even good here! It's only supposed to get to 85 today! And then go into the low 60's tonight. That is way cooler than it was a week ago (upper 90's). We have the window's open in the house and the AC OFF!!!!! I'm taking tomorrow off to work on getting the house ready to show. We have a nibble - did I tell you? We're going to show it next week! Very cool, since it's not on the market yet.

DebW - welcome back and congrats on the new baby in the family!

Nanci - love the pics, as usual! And the video!

You know - everyone is complaining about this, that, or the other today at work and it is so nice to know that I don't have to worry about that crud anymore! Now I get to move to new crud!
