I wanted to believe them. But now I think the end of September is more likely.

    Updates...

So I talked to Riv. Super nice folks (for anyone who, like me, was looking at them, and lives far away from any dealers). We ascertained that I do ride a 54 which is NOT being discontinued. I actually have a shorter inseam than V - mine is about 29, so hopefully I won't have the problems with the top tube length. Bad news is they're out of them (54's), and they haven't yet placed the next order, so > 6 months for one to come in. Good news: they're still making the 54. They mentioned a TN dealer has one (but it isn't the color I want - it's green and I wanted a blue one...)

There might be other dealers who have one in stock, you could try calling various dealers. I got mine last month from Harris (near Boston). I do know they have other blue rambs in stock, but maybe not another 54. No harm in calling them though, maybe they can recommend other dealers to call as well in your search.
The new Rivendell Bleriots are in stock now at Rivendell- slightly less expensive only because of the type of steel used I think (doesn't effect function or looks), but they are very very nice bikes. Blue. And they have your size. Here are some pix:

I actually would have gotten a Bleriot instead of my Rambouillet, if they had been in stock last month.

I've looked on the Riv site and can't find anything that lists bike shops that carry them in stock. Is there a list somewhere? I'm curious about how far I'd have to go to see one in person.

Be very carefull about this. I looked up the frame geometries of the 54 cm bikes and the top tube is 55 cm! That is *very long*. I am 5 ft 4 with a 30.5" inseam and am best fit on bikes with a 73 STA and 48-49 cm top tube.

    Lisa-

May I ask what you like better about the Bleriot? I've read some about it, but not a lot. They *all* look like nice bikes to me And it is a purty color I'm quite frankly not too sure what the difference would be from a Ram, except for wheel size/tco (which doesn't really bother me - all my bikes have it and I work around it well). I do think I would want narrower than a 30 tire, though (which *looks* like the narrowest available for a 650B.

Pooks: Try http://www.rivendellbicycles.com/htm...ouillet_7.html (that gets you the Rambouillet dealers). If you call Riv, they can generally tell you the closest shop to you. I'm quite a ways from one (i.e. there isn't one in my state...)

You bring up a good point. The reach is a little long. I only notice it when I stretch out to the hoods. Being in the drops is very comfortable however and that's where I spend most of the time now.

However, the stoker compartment on our tandem is about the same size as your ideal bike and I feel like a pretzil! So much so that we have a custom tandem on order.

Carrie Anne you may want to consider the Legolas. It is essentially the same geometry as a Rambouillet, slightly lighter tubing. The 53 is what I am getting as my new Double Century bike. It has a 54 cm top tube. If the frame is unpainted, you can choose your color.
