    Unhappy I'm hurting....

... and I think I'll need some cheers to be able to bike home.

I bike commute to work in a major city. It's not the safest of activities, but most days are ok.

Right in Center City, 1/2 block from city hall, a pedestrian walks out between two cars - jaywalking - right in front of me. He saw me and started to move left, changed his mind, moved right, changed his mind, moved left... you get the picture.

    So I couldn't avoid him.

    I nailed him.

I went flying into the lane of traffic and he didn't even get knocked over.

Long story short, I'm really upset, I hurt, I'm scraped up, I'm bruised, I'm bleeding..... and to add insult to injury, my fruit in my bag got squished in the fall and the pulp got all over my dress pants, so I'm in shorts for the day.

Right now between tears I'm just trying to tell myself that I'd much rather have a run-in with a pedestrian than a vehicle!

Owwww. That must have been such a shock. I'm really glad you're OK, relatively speaking.

What a NITWIT that guy was !! I suppose it's just as well you didn't knock him down (think of the paperwork )

And that is such a drag about your work pants - talk about adding insult to injury, ack.

OK, gotta ask ... how's the bike?

    Unhappy Bummer!!!

    Oh Cdalekat,

So sorry to hear about your run in - that really sucks! Is there anyone who could pick you and your bike up from work today? It's perfectly understandable that you might feel a bit shaky for a ride home?

Good luck whatever you do - and DO be glad it was not a car you tangled with. Did the pedestrian even apologize for being a nitwit?

Sorry to hear about your accident.

A quote on crashing from "The Quotable Cyclist" chosen just for you:

"The problem is that you can be wounded in your mind as well as your physique."

    -Marco Pantani

Hope you heal quickly, physically and mentally.

    Owwwwwwwwwwww.

Similar experience yesterday....sans the awfull fall.

On my way to work down a residential street, we are 8 feet away from a crosswalk, eight (8) feet, woman darts out between two cars and jaywalks across from opposite side. I slowed (which ticked me off, just got a good head of steam) but instead of rushing to get across she just stops.

Gets "deer in the headlights look" brain dead, just stops in front of me stares, slack jawed like she's never seen a bike before. I come to a full stop and gotta admit I yelled "I'm going 20 mph lady if I was a car you'd be hurt or dead (I lied, 15.9 mph) pleeeeease use the crosswalk, it's right THERE!" She's still just stopped right in front of me, finaly moves. It's possible she did not speak English...

I think some peds do not understand we're the same or about the same speed as cars.

What I learned today from Cdalekat: alovera and ibuprofin at work.

*sniffle* Thanks ladies for the words of encouragement.

Nitwit did ask if I was ok and stood around looking abashed until I told him to leave. No apology though. I did yell at him "this is why you shouldn't jaywalk - things like this happen!!!"

And my sweetie of a husband offered to pick me up from work, and sent me a huge vase of flowers to brighten my day.

I always carry naprosen with me, so I took it when I got to work!

Now for my ride home.... I hate those first few rides after a spill....

Thanks again everyone. I really appreciate your kind words and sympathy.

It's happened before, and I'm sure it will happen again.

Though I'll admit... I drove to work today instead of biking.

( And yes jobob, my bike is ok! )
