Cheri- I guess it would be food poisoning, sort of. It definitely was not the hot chocolate, I haven't had a chance to try it! Our guess is he picked this up in the last week, but it could have been up to 50 days ago. We are still not sure that is what it is, but I got the vaccine anyway. Wow, it hurt. I usually take shots well, but this one I didn't.

Your pup is so precious! He looks very much like a schnauzer, I would have never known. My avatar is my little Heidi. She is full grown at 7.5 pounds. Here she is with our other baby, Maggie. They both need a bath and a cut in this picture.

I got hep A as a teenager. I contracted it through food - somebody didn't wash their hands well and I got it.

I didn't feel well for a couple of weeks, but I was young & dumb & kept pushing. When I finally collapsed (almost literally) they ran blood tests & found it. So, I was in bed for quite awhile.

This was in the 70's, mind you, so I'm sure there are better treatments available. Oh, and the only thing on TV was Watergate. On all three channels. Yes, boys & girls, only three channels.

Oh thanks, Dogmama. Turns out he didn't have Hepatitis A and I wish he did. I got the painful vaccine for nothing. I guess I am ready to travel somewhere exotic though!

He has an abdomin infection of unknown origin right now. They are thinking a perforated stomach, Crohn's disease or Irritable Bowel Syndrome. And he is now on his third night in the hospital. It is awful.

How scarey. IBS? That would be pretty far fetched. If he has an elevated white count, I would doubt that.

Perforated stomach? Has he been in any knife fights?

I sure hope they can figure it out & you can get him back home! I think it's worse on the care giver sometimes.

Well it isn't a perforated stomach. I am still hoping for the irritable bowel over Crohn's. I googled "abdominal cavity infections" and it actually lists irritable bowel disease as a cause on Merck's site.

He is going to be hospitalized until Tuesday or Wednesday. They determined the type of bacteria now, but not the origin. The good news is they now know which of the three antibiotics to attack it with.

Hep A - usually takes 4 weeks to feel better but there is no residual problems. It can be completely cured with the right medication and rest.
