1 km = .62 miles so 1/2 km = .31 miles.

How long is 1/2 kilometer?? I know a 5k is 3.1 miles and my little pea brain is just feeling math challenged today... I found a race in san diego that looks fun, but it's another ocean swim so I'm kinda leery... I survived .25 miles in the ocean, but could I surviive any longer?? hmm...

For the metric girl always confused about miles I just use this

you can also enter your equation into Google and it will solve or convert for you. You would enter "convert 0.5 km to miles" and it will spit out 0.5 kilometers = 0.310685596 miles.
Google will also do your child's algebra!! (If you can figure out how to enter in the equations correctly!). We had a heck of a time with it the other night to check DD's work, but eventually figured it out. Wish I could afford that $100 calculator for her (but then if I did that, I would have less $$ for me to buy cycling toys with!).

Where was my head?? I guess I just knew that you girls could help me.![]()
Thanks!
I use a calculator and remember the number 1.6
For example...
10 kilometres divided by 1.6 = 6.25 miles
10 miles multiplied by 1.6 = 16 kilometres
So when some here says "I averaged 19.3 miles on my ride today"
I get out the calculator and go 19.3 (miles) x 1.6 = 30.88 kilometres... and then I understand how fast they went

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
"I will try again tomorrow".
