Beta, have you called and asked for the speciality pharma department? Those of us with chronic diseases that need high dollar meds are frequently put into a special pharma program where you even get a single person point of contact. I get 3 mos of my MS injection via mail order for the same copay as the others but get handled through a different unit.

Is the total cost to you less even if you get only one mos at a time thrugh mail order? Usually, it is.

Another idea is to call the drug manufacturer itself. They frequently will have a website and a program specific to the disease and can help you find your way through the insurance programs.

    Just some ideas.

mimi don't worry about the bird flu, we're on top of that one out here. finished testing swans last month, this month we start steller's eiders (endangered sea ducks) and pintails next month. we have your safety in mind here.

nanci i love the army bed. very cute.

i get my Rx through the mail (no choice there, its how insurance covers it and no pharmacys here) much cheaper for me. i like it. have no problems.

fish great job on kicking some a$$ in the interview! go you!

    Pet slugs?

Anyone know how to keep a pet slug, what to feed it, etc? I've been thinking seriously about giving my friend a pet slug. When we were backpacking 2 years ago, every time we would stop, she would start a conversation with the slugs. I accidentally almost stepped on one she'd had a long convo with, and she wouldn't let me forget it. She's not usually that wacky, but it was her first time away from her son for 4 days. When her wife heard about the slugs, she knew how much her partner missed their child.

I've had snails as pets- they ate plain old iceberg lettuce. I'll never forget the first time I saw them doing it, and then laying eggs in the soil of a plant that was in their tank. I was so excited waiting for the babies to hatch!! They came fom my sister who lived in Berkely at the time. I started out with nine, but ended up with a million...

    I bet slugs are similar...

I used to work at a place where we did x-rays on a lot of medical examiner (dead) patients. We'd have maggot races- you put them in the center of a floor tile, and whoever gets out first wins!

Ewwwwwwww Nanci. That's gross! I'm eating lunch. I should know better by now, shouldn't I?

I do not officially have the job yet. However, I was told I would get a call next week requesting an equipment list of what the person who gets the job would need. Uhh - that's pretty positive, don't ya tink?

Nanci - most of the science questions were about molecular biology and my transitioning from catfish to bees and work I would do once I was there. There were some questions about interacting with bee keepers and such and talking to them about mol. biol. Those were tough!

Thanks for the congrats ladies! Now - I wait until next week to get the official call. Hopefully things do not get slowed down too much.

OK - now to catch up on TD and the rest of TE. Yikes!

FishDr, congrats on the good interview. Is this a state or fed job? Is the funding long term, or on a proposal/contract basis? It's the proposal writing, waiting 1 year for an answer, waiting another 1/2 year for money that's really discouraging in my field. I work for a private firm under NASA contracts and the future is always uncertain.
