Iron Mountain road ride - Sunday morning, Aug 27

    To disable ads, please log-in.

My friend Sue F asked today if we'd like to ride Iron Mountain/Mormon-Emigrant and we said SURE! So, any takers?

Emerald? You hanging around out there? Yellow, we know you'll be there in spirit.

I'll post the time once Sue decides.

I'm gonna be slow. It'll be my 3rd straight day of riding. BZ, you better have an easy ride planned for Saturday.

Kim, Sue F asked if 8 am was too early to start. This is a few miles above Pollock Pines. The Bike Bus would need to leave our house by 6:40. Can you make it here by then?

    What a sport!

There's no agua on this route. Gotta do it when it's cool.

The first time we had Thom driving SAG and honking at inappropriate times. The other times it was cool enough we were OK.

I'll probably put a small one in the car - I hate camelbacks on my road bike. I also have a small Platypus bladder that will fit in a jersey pocket. Pollock Pines says a high of 88 and we'll be going up to 8,000' I think. I'll have to re-check the stats.

It's really about 22 miles up if you go only to Highway 88 (3 hours or so) and then the downhill is one really, really fast wide open descent. You only stop if your hands and back start to scream. Ed can go over 50 on the descent. Yellow has gone 49 or so.

Oh, I wasn't being critical. I though it was hilarious after we found out the problem.

Veronica, will you bring the BOB to carry my food and water?

Don't give Thom any ideas please. Although... maybe...I've set PBP as a goal for next year. I finally put it down in writing. It would be good training and would take care of that whole water issue...

The trailer is a pain to descend with. The bike gets squirrely when I get over 30 mph.

We can just put the extra bottles in the gigandawonda book bag. That way the BOB won't interfere with Princess Zippy's descent.

I'm really glad you're both coming. Maybe I should get out my bike horn for Thom just for old times sake.

That would mean putting the rack back on Fluffy. We'll see. If I'm hauling crap I get to use the little gear.

I'll be there. Love to see just how fast I can go on the way back! I know the hill will be much easier than when I rode it w/ Mr. Rod and Mr. Bruce about this same time last year!
