OT:Razors, wax or creams for shaving legs

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I am sick and tired of shaving my legs, my hair just must grow fast. I am not hairy and most of my leg hair is really fair. But still. If I wax, don't I have to let the hair grow for awhile.

So what do you recommend. Thanks

I used to wax, but it became such a pain to go to the salon, plus, you are right... there is the grow-out phase. I went back to shaving with a razor, but have found that using a shaving gel is important. I used to use soap, but no more! A good foaming shaving gel with a nice scent and a built-in moisturizer did wonders.
Once, in a pinch, I used my BF's Gillette foaming gel on my legs. It worked well, but then I smelled like a guy for a while. A clean-shaven guy!

I actually use an epilator, which is like waxing in that it rips hairs out at the root. When I go on a trip I don't shave or do anything else. And there's no messy wax.

OK now you are scaring me as soon as I hear the word rip and hair I feel faint.

I shaved for years. I have plenty of hair on my legs (and underarms too), but it's pretty light colored.
My DH convinced me to stop shaving, saying "why on earth would you prefer ugly prickly razor stubble to your nice soft natural animal tufts??? He made me see the silliness of shaving and the niceness of our natural human "fur". I stopped shaving years ago and feel more beautiful because of it.

If you get tired of your DH, can I have him?

I shave, and bring a razor on tours - sometimes even dry shave
But, I have very manly hair - or maybe it's closer to hedgehog hair. I'd love to try a home wax, but never found anyone who was happy with the home versions.

I use a rechargable electric razor on my legs and a plain old disposable on the underarms. The electric razor tends to rip the underarm hairs out. Ouch!

For what it's worth- during my shaving years, I used to think my leg hair was "manly" and excessive too, but now I'm used to it and it just seems normal.

I used to have an epilator. The first couple times it was brutal.

    I went back to shaving - or rather NOT shaving - except for a few weeks in summer when I MIGHT wear a skirt;

I tried cold waxing strips this summer and they have a lasting effect. I even did my bikini zone (*slight youch* - have not progressed to underarms yet). Now that most is "weeded out", they do not come back all at once, so a first round with a new epilator I am contemplating to buy might be more bearable.

Ok, so a different angle from me...

I have my legs waxed actually, (at a salon). I do it once a month and it keeps me mostly hair-free during that time. The last week before an appointment is a bit feral, but I don't really mind. Waxing isn't painful, to me, i've gone through far worse things than having hair pulled (like most every woman).

I simply don't have the time, desire, or energy to sit in the shower and shave every few days - my leg hair is rather thick and dark (IMO anyway) - plus I like having perfectly smooth legs.

In-growns aren't a problem because I exfoliate regularly, that keeps everything in good order.

As far as letting it grow out, yes you have to, so that the hair is long enough to be removed. My hair though grows in much, much thinner and lighter than it used to when I shaved. Two weeks after shaving I have some hair on my legs but it is very hard to see as it is rather fine.

    Anyway, just another option...

Another vote for the epilator. I used to wax, I used the Nair microwaveable, but then they changed the papers and it didn't work so well anymore, plus I was tired of the mess. If you've waxed before, then the epilator is no big deal in terms of pain. If you're worried about pain, a couple of stiff drinks before the deed eases it considerably Shaving is too time consuming, also messy with the gel getting all over the tub, and I get in-growns no matter how much I exfoliate. BTW, I couldn't find an epilator locally, I ordered it online from Target.

I guess I am a shaving geek. I cannot stand ruff legs. I shave every night before going to bed and it simply became a part of my life, a habit. I just look at it this way: I used to hate it, but now I actually like it. I buy good products and then use very pleasant lotion, and I feel so much better going to bed all smooth. And if you feel that going hairless is what you need, use your imagination and think that you are going to share your bed with someone REALLY good looking.
