I got the Panaracer High Road V just because they were cheap at $15 and looked better suited to wet weather than the other ones available.

Nice choice! Pretty tread, and you're right -- price is great, and they do look like a good wet climate tire! I don't much think about wet weather here -- it's so infrequent, I forget it even exists sometimes!
DH laughed when I said I wanted slicks, thought "my ladies" were giving me a load of something -- he's not laughing now!

yeah, I'm just a mud puppy and since I'm looking for somewhere to work nearby, hoping to commute hard-core... i.e. rain or shine. =D
Sorry I'm postin this a day late by I was too tired to post a note last night. BF and I got up early, packed our bikes and joined 60 other club members in Westport, Kentucky (a sleepy little town on the Ohio River, est 1797). The mist was hanging over cyclists were busy unpacking bikes, checking equipment and exchanging greetings. I quickly discovered I had left my water bottles at home a big mistake for a century but BF came to my rescue for he had tossed an extra bottle in his bag. The ride took us out the valley we were in and we passed through the tiny town of Pendleton and stopped in Eminence for our first store stop. I picked up a couple bottles of Gatorade in the sports bottles and treated myself to some Little Debbie Swiss rolls - told my BF today was a non Weight Watchers day. The group took off again making our way through New Castle and then we headed towards Carrollton for lunch. We traveled some beautiful rural roads with very little traffic. Lunch was at an eatery that overlooks the Ohio, we all fueled up and then headed home. I was simply amazed at my average speed (16.9 at the 60 mile mark) and how well my legs felt. The ride home had us climbing a few more hllls and the last five miles of the ride were 99% downhill - a great way to end a century. In the end I had logged 100.73, spent 5:58 minutes in the saddle and average 16.8 (a personal best for a century). My legs felt great at the end but by the time I got home my body told me it was tired. BF treated me to dinner at Cracker Barrel we came home, fed the animals and climbed into bed at 8:00 - I slept like a baby all night. It was a great day to say the least.
