Talking Glad I found this forum!!!

I just bought my first road bike today, a 2005 Trek 5000. Can't wait to start riding!! (It's night time, or I would ride now!) I signed up to do the "Tour de Pink", a breast cancer ride here in Houston, and I thought this was as good a time as ever to start riding. I have been thinking about buying a bike and join some sort of cycling group.

My old past time was playing on line poker.....needless to say, my back side has grown larger. I have just lost 32 lbs, need to lose 25 more. All I know, is that I need some exersice, the kind you continue throughout life.

Anyway, I am glad I found this forum. I have already learned quite a bit of useful information...thanks to all of you!

Welcome!! I to am a new rider trying to change my health habits and lose weight. I rode many years ago after I had my son, but got out of it due to work, family, yada, yada, yada, and not time to ever really go.
I am now back into it and this forum has helped me already tremendously to keep myself motivated and inspired.

I too live in TX, maybe some day we will meet on an organized ride.

    Yikes!!! It's a Manbike!

They did not have a WSD, and of course as soon as I tried the carbon, I was like...WOW....I was looking for a 1500 WSD (not carbon), but they didn't have one in my size. I tried about 10 different bikes (it took all day) and the Trek 5000 was a great fit. And since it was the 2005 I got a really good price. I'm 47 years old, I think I have worked hard enough to deserve a little bit of comfort I added a JETT women's saddle, and that made a HUGE difference.

Hope to see any of you at a organized event!

    Welcome aboard!

The important thing is that your bike fits you, regardless of its gender. Have fun with "him"! When is the Tour de Pink scheduled? On these forums, you can find all sorts of info about training and preparing for a long ride, so look around.

welcome to that board toni and welcome to the wonderful world of cycling. and congrats on the new bike!! sounds like you got a sweet deal!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

welcome to TE or as we call it "heaven for women cyclists". Somewhere around here there's a lengthy thread on "what gender is your bike?".

Manbike (love the term!) or girlbike it's yourbike! .

That makes even the roughest, toughest, butchiest, (but sensitive of course) manly bike .... a girlbike.
