The most effective way to do it, is to do it.

Oh, man, I know how you feel! My friend Jamie and I did the half marathon last year, and when the pix came out, all we could say was, "I'll never wear those kind of shorts again!"![]()
The camera cannot possibly capture the beauty of a strong woman in motion!

I especially like the last running shot, with the orange cones. At least you're smiling, and haven't turned some horrible color, like I always do! I've had _one_ event photo I liked, ever...

Ah! I hadn't seen the bike and orange cone ones! Great smiles!

Oh stop- you look healthy and like you're having fun. I understand tho for sure! I'm super self-critical when it comes to race pictures (never bought one because I always look like a house, in pain, dying, etc). I take that back- I bought one of me at the Nike San. Fran Women's Marathon because the ocean was in the background (forget looking at me).
I think they're good shots- I especially like the last one of you and the cones where you're smiling. That's a good shot (and I like the head-on shot of you on the bike-like you're gonna mow that camera man down).
I don't think race photographers are super skilled at getting the best action shots in the most flattering postions (and who can blame them-they're crazy busy at a race). I think I need to adopt some kind of pose/facial expression/wacky hand wave to do at race photographers. That way at least I won't look so deathly in pictures (and I can laugh at them when viewing them online after the event).

RM, I think you look great! I especially like the picture of you on the bike -- you look like a strong, athletic woman having a great time! And I'm positive that you can outrun, outride, and outswim me and most of the people I know (including men). I don't know if you realize it, but you are definitely an inspiration to many of us.
