    I swallowed a bug!!

title says it all. It was my first DUSK ride as I had to work late, and as I was riding home there were bugs everywhere.

I'm gonna hafta learn to keep my mouth shut. (I guess that's true in another sense too)

Eeeww!! I had trouble with Love Bugs earlier this year. I got one in my mouth, and spit it out, and then another went down, and I puked it out!! It just happened, I didn't even try- they taste HORRIBLE!!

I swallow bugs regularly, just CANNOT ride with my mouth shut! There was a very funny thread on Bike Forums, something like, "What's the biggest bug you ever swallowed?" (someone's answer--dragonfly. ugh).

I too, ingested something fuzzy and salty during yesterday morning's commute. I just wasn't into the early morning protein thing and spat it out. Just glad it wasn't a cloud of them and only a solitary creature. Gnat clouds aren't fun to ride through!

Ask Tiff, I have that exact same problem!! I think I eat a bug on every ride. She's getting used to me gagging dramatically at least once during a ride.

I thought eating bugs was just a great way to keep energy levels up

BTW how can everyone identify them before eating them? ? ?

i hear bugs are a great source of energy.

don't know how to identify them before eating, i just figured they knew you were running low on energy and decided to jump in.

See I'm thinking the same thing - all those fancy gels and whatnot out there.....why bother??....just eat a bug every few miles, ride a brevet!!!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

I've only eaten a bug once, but it was a little one and gave me no energy at all.

When I was in the Army out on bivouac once, a bug crawled way down into my ear and wouldn't come out. It was dark and I was reading in my shelter-half with a flashlight. It was QUITE annoying and nerve-wracking to have him in there flapping his wings and crawling around! ::shudder::

But I got wise and pointed the flashlight at my ear and it crawled right out. Still went to sick call, though. Wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to use a flush toilet.

OMG, this is so gross. I haven't eaten any. I try to remember to breath through my nose and out my mouth. I thought that was the way you were suppose to breath while exercising. I couldn't imagine smiling and having bug stuff between my teeth. LOL

I would probably puke involuntarily if I swallowed one. Or be like Brandy and have a gagging coughing fit trying to get it out. LOL

I have been hit by them, but before when I use to ride quite frequently and now that I am riding again, so far, (knock on wood) I have not eaten or even gotten any in my mouth.
