Hello everyone. From what I've read, I'm in a situation similar to a lot of you. I was very athletic in my 20's, then a skiing injury sidelined me and the weight just piled on. I'm going to be 40 in a couple of weeks, and I've made the commitment to get back into shape.
I've always loved to ride, and with my fiancee's guidance bought a new bike...here's the link, I really love it.

I could use some advice. Jim has been a biking fanatic for 30 years. His passion is training for the Mt. Washington ride every year. I just can't keep up with him.
He's tried to point me in the right direction regarding how many times a week to ride and distances etc....but we both end of frustrated because it ends up being to much. I'm the type of person who does best when I have set goals to reach. There is a nearby bikepath that we do on Sunday mornings that's 24 miles...that I do fairly easily...but it's flat and it just feels different then the road. Can anyone give suggestions on how I can go about finding a workout schedule that will push me a little but not be overwhelming? I also feel like I'm the slowest bikerider in the world which doesn't help my motivation.
I appreciate any help!
