    2013 Death March

I think that I am going to go for the Death March next March. I've volunteered at this event in the past and it is brutal - partially because it is so early in the year. The link is to the 2012 event.

It is, however, mostly on gravel roads rather than trails. Ok, some of the gravel roads are a bit...steep....and bring your own maps So the point is that you and your partner - no solo racers allowed - must find your way to certain historic cemeteries around the Hoosier National Forest & surrounding area. You know before the day of the event what three of the required cemeteries are, and the day of the event another one is drawn. You MUST at least go to the 4 required locations, but there are others you can go to for more points.

The route you take and the order you take them in are entirely up to you. In order to prove you were there, you take a picture of you and your partner at each location.

I won't be doing this with the goal of finishing. I just want to find someone who doesn't care about completing either and go find a couple of cemeteries. It will be fun! I gotta be nuts!

I am hoping to find a partner this fall, and as the weather cools down later this fall will find some gravel roads to start practicing on. Some people ride mountain bikes, others bring Cross bikes. I just have to do this, I've been itching to participate in at least one of the events I normally volunteer for and I think this is the one. It will be fun! I KNOW I won't be able to complete the entire race within the allotted time period and I am not going to try - just go and have a blast! This also provides me a focus for increasing my fitness over the winter

For those who DO have a hope of being competitive - they have very nice swag as prizes. Just saying..... There is also the Gravel Grovel that is held on Thanksgiving weekend at the same place/area - but that is more of an out and back. Nice prizes there as well.
