It's reasonably flat where I am, too. The hills aren't what scare me so much as the elevation. I'm not sure what my asthmatic lungs are going to think about that. Last year I rode in Death Valley...the heat was intense, but my lungs felt great below sea level!
I didn't even think of the altitude issue! I did my first century with TNT and it's 99.9% flat and the coach told me the Tahoe ride isn't any harder. I find that hard to believe. A 8 mile climb? hmmmm.
