I never used to be a "serious" biker- just a point a to point b kind of person. Lately, however, I have gotten pretty serious about it and have been biking 16 miles a day, an average of 5 days a week. I have been riding a total POS Ross Eurosport (looks to be about a mid-'70s model judging from design, components, etc.), and am itching to upgrade to a new bike that will take the kind of wear and tear that I have been giving mine. I am looking for something well under $1000. Thoughts? I am looking for objective opinions independent of those given by the guys at my LBS. NB: I ride in NYC and points just north of there, so that will give you an idea of terrain.
