I rode 70 miles with my bike club on Sunday, July 24th. It was a gorgeous, sunny, warm (84 degrees) day in Seattle. We started with 15 riders from the Sumner library parking lot and rode 35 miles north to Alki Beach which is southwest of Seattle.
The place was packed with people out enjoying the sun and water and scenery. We stopped at the former Alki Bakery, it now has a new name and owners, and I just can't recall the new name of the place but the food is still delicious. I had a sandwich, ice tea, and macaroni salad. Before heading back I took a few pictures
As we neared South Park (South Seattle area) we noticed thick smoke in the sky and watched as a half dozen fire trucks passed us.
We finally got close enough to see what was on fire and it was an apartment complex. I could feel the heat from the flames all the way by the road where we stopped to watch for a few minutes.
My Garmin had a weird glitch on yesterday's ride. When I looked at it around mile 47 it looked fine but at the end of the ride when I looked at it instead of showing 70 miles (which was the mileage for today's route) it showed 1,699.5 miles! I sent an email off to garmin and hope they can explain this one!
When I uploaded the ride from my garmin to my garmin site it showed the route plus a veering off east across the united states out into the atlantic and back before continuing on back to Sumner library start.
If you're curious here is the link to that download:
Garmin Glitch
Just zoom in on the map and you can see the route with the by pass east to the Atlantic and then back to the route. I can't wait to hear back from garmin and see how they explain this!![]()
