So I go to my local Specialized dealer today and ask to test ride a Specialized Toupe Saddle on the trainer because I know they are very fussy about returns and I wanted to be safe. So the guy rolls out a Specialized Dolce in my size and lets me toodle around the store with it - I buy the saddle and walk out the door, thinking.. "hmm that sure seemed like a fun little bike. - Eh, but I'm not into Aluminum.." and put it out of my mind.
Fast forward 6 hours or so, I've ridden the Toupe about 10 miles on my 40lb Surly LHT and decide I need to try the 143mm size because the 155 is chafing me. So I schlep back to the Specialized dealer and ask to test ride the 143 saddle..
Dude: "Sure! But didn't you say you didn't like Aluminum.. You need to try the Specialized Ruby Expert! Oh, let me take your ID and credit card so you can take it out on the road, you can't get a good feel for a saddle on a trainer.. there aren't bumps in the road on a trainer!"[Insert evil grin here]
So he rolls out a friggin BEAUTIFUL black/hot pink Specialized Ruby expert in my size(that weighs less that 1 wheel on my LHT), pops the saddle on, and says "Have fun!"
Oh geez, it fits like a glove... after 5 seconds on the bike I know the saddle is going to be the one, but I couldn't stop after just one ride around the block. 8 min later I pry myself off the bike and wheel it in the shop..
Dude: "Did it work for you?"
Me: "YES!"
Dude: "The saddle or the bike?"
Me: "YES!"
Dude: "mwah hahahahahahahahahahahahaha"
ME: "Ok, how much?"
Dude: "about $2,000"
Me: "sigh.................................. maybe in a few years......"
