I find that a stern "Back!" or "Go home!" often does the trick. For it to work though, you have to see them first, which is sometimes the challenge. I've started to develop a sixth sense of when I'm in loose dog territory and start scanning the yards before I get to them. I'm not above letting my DH ride a bit in front. He's not quite as terrified of them as me. So, he flushes them out and I yell. Beyond that, we've scoped out a handful of safe routes.
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.
