    Hot Spot

The other day I went hiking in my Keene sandals (non-cycling version) and there were several gravel trails. By the end of my hike part of my left foot was bothering me, but it had cleared up after lunch and my preparations to go biking.

I use BMX pedals and Keen Commuters right now for riding - and at first there wasn't any problem. Around 11 miles however I got this sudden and, well, I can only describe it as a "hot" pain in the ball of my foot that radiated up to one of my toes. I took a break and it improved. I understand this normal and just happens from time to time when one uses regular pedals/shoes. Then I read sites that associates it with cleats only, it depends what site you look at

I found this about a shoe insert that Specialized makes to prevent hot spots - has anyone tried them? I spoke with a local Specialized dealer who says that they are quite good at what they do - but for $50 inserts I thought that I would ask what experience, if any, that others have had with these.
