DH and I often ride together, but separate. That is, many of our weekend rides are group rides, so we each find our own sub-group and ride there. So, when he was hurt and had his knee surgery, I still did my rides. I even the occasional solo ride - on routes that we might have otherwise done just the two of us. Twice now, such solo rides has allowed me to meet people on the roads who turned out to be neighbors! Strange to meet someone who lives around the corner for the first time when out on a bike, miles from home. But then, I think I'm much more willing to chat on rides than DH - who tends to be a head-down-and-hammer kind of rider. He barely talks to ME when we ride together. I would fully expect him to do his rides if/when I'm laid out.
