Old Red Gets a New Life. Red bike pics.

For a while now, I have been thinking of getting a Surly Long Haul Trucker. With all the talk and the rave. There is this really luscious Cherry Red frame out there. I'd get the frame and build it up. Put a honey Brooks on it and boy it'd be a real sharp workhorse. There aren't any shops near me where I can test ride one and I'd have no idea of what size frame I'd need nor do I know if it'd fit ok. I'd have to travel pretty far. But I said, I do have a bike in the cellar. It's neglected, needs some rehab, but it's in overall good condition, it's steel, and it's red. Let's just use what I already have. It's a 7-speed, but a road bike that I can use as an alternative, use as a guest bike, or a utility bike. At this point I won't be doing any heavy loaded tours, just errands with groceries probably no more than 30 miles round trip to my nearest store. What I didn't realize is that the drive train is a Shimano Hyperglide C, a compact system. It's a 1995, strange for a road bike but the Lemond Tourmalet's of that year were spec'd out like that. So already I have a mt. setup with a 46/36/26 front 3 and an 11-24 rear cassette. So I overhauled it and it's looking real pretty all shiny and happy in the sunshine.

Old Red's first task was to get some milk, half & half, and some Mike's Hard Lemonade at the seasonal store, 6 miles. The nearest real store is a 30-mile roundtrip, which I'll do later.

I was angering the wildlife. There was a hummingbird interested in the red bike while I was working on it.
