On my very enjoyable 24 mile ride today, I found two interesting things on the road.
First, on a country road, I saw the glint of coins on the road....at least a few quarters, so I stopped to pick them up. (DH thought I was a bit daffy but oh well)
about a dollar's worth of change, but among the coins was this Israeli coin:

Then, later in the ride, I saw a tiny tan round thing right in the middle of the rural two lane highway. It looked like the top of a milk jug or something. After riding past it, I realized it must have been a tiny baby painted turtle, upside down in the road, and it hadn't seemed squashed. So I slammed on my brakes and went back... and sure enough, here was the little fellow, no more than 1 1/2" around, just lying upside down right in the road where he seemed resigned to the idea of getting squashed....
I quickly just tossed him in my saddlebag and continued riding, catching back up to my husband. DH actually never even knew I had stopped, and when we got home I told him I had a surprise to show him and pulled Tiny out of my saddlebag. He was surprised all right.
I made "Tiny" a little paradise resort tank with water, gravel, and rocks to sun on, and I plan to fatten him up good on worms and bugs and then let him go in a big turtle pond near here when autumn comes. That pond has about a billion painted turtles in it. Usually I just put the 'road turtles' on the side of the road to let them get on their way, but this one is too cute not to keep for just a little while.
Having him next to my desk here reminds me of when I was a little girl and always had pet turtles. I know he belongs back in the wild, but no harm in him having a brief 'vacation'.
Not sure of the significance of finding this coin and the little turtle both today. What does it mean?
