I don't know if this will help at all, but I have a journal / article that essentially is my packing list for biking tours - including both on the bike and off the bike clothing. I used it as a reminder for myself for a non-biking trip last fall, and I was able to get away with only a small carry-on for a week-long trip. Of course it does require that I wash clothes every night!

On the shoe front, if I'm on a biking trip I usually take my biking shoes and Chaco Z/1 sandals. These sandals are pretty stable and I have happily used them for hiking - depending on the terrain, of course. For a hiking trip I may take hiking shoes (or boots) plus again the Chaca sandals.

My "What's in that trailer? Or in those panniers?" article can be read at denisepacks.crazyguyonabike.com. (Oh, and if that site isn't available, please try again later. I know that Neil - the webmaster for and owner of crazyguyonabike - is working to resolve a sporadic problem with the site.)
