I've been running regularly for about six months, cycling for 4, so I've been thinking about doing a tri next year. So last weekend I went to the Y and hopped in the pool for the first time in years.

I swam a lot as a child and teenager (never competitively) but haven't done much since. So I was expecting it not to go well, but I surprised myself. I completely forgot how to do a flip turn, but I did freestyle for about half an hour and felt pretty good.

So last night I went back with a goal in mind - 1500m without any breaks. I swallowed a bunch of water and still can't do a flip turn to save my life, but I completed it in about 37 minutes. What I'm even more excited about is that afterwards I felt fine, not winded, and not even a little bit sore, not even today. This is surprising to me because I'm only in OK shape - I'm carrying at least 15 extra lbs, and running more than 3 miles at a 12 minute pace is a serious effort for me.

So I am beginning to feel good about this whole triathlon idea, I guess I just need to concentrate on the running! I want my husband to do it with me, but he is not on board.

Me: Wouldn't it be fun to have this as a goal that we can accomplish together?
Him: No.
