So about a month ago, a cyclist was hit and killed by a car here while on a ride with his wife on a road that is frequented by many MANY cyclists. It was a shock to many people here, especially since he was a first year law student here at the University of New Mexico, where I go, and where of course many of my friends go.
There was a memorial ride yesterday for him, and I guess word of it really spread, there must have been 250+ people out there!! It was the biggest group I've ever ridden with!
So what I'm wondering is this: WHY does it take such a tragic event for people to get out and ride like this? HOW can we make it safer for cyclists here? People either don't think that we have a right to ride here, or they just don't pay attention...it's so scary because I ride So So much, and I certainly don't want to stop...![]()
