I have been struggling with shin splints but I was feeling a little frisky Saturday morning when I started my 5k run/walk. The sun was out and I felt AWESOME! I finished in 40 min which is slow (I had to stop and pick up doggie doo twice). The wind had picked up and it was about 38 degrees so I opted for the trainer. I peeled off my outer layers and popped in the Carmichael time trial dvd and off I pedaled. I don't think I've ridden that hard in ages cause my legs were shot coming off the bike. I was on the bike for 65minutes (no computer) but I know I hit at least 15 trainer miles - guessing it would have been closer to 20 on the road. Anywho, I switched shoes and put the outer layers back on and out I trotted for a 1 mile run/walk sanse dogs (it was all about me this time
). I had a huge knot in my right calf by this time and the shins were on fire, but I did it! A pitifully slow 12 minute mile but the accomplishment was well worth it. I am so looking forward to race day and some supporters cheering me on and completing this important goal for me.
I have 7 weeks to get over this shin splint crap (I see the pediatrist on Friday) and shave off some time. A huge thank you to you ladies for sharing your stories and motivation. I have always been a closet "I wanna be a triathlete at least once" person. Now I'm actually DOING it by starting with a duathlon. What would I do without the TE gals??
