I got a pair of these at REI the other day (shhhhhhh, don't tell DH!) He thought they were too spendy for him on sale for $50. But then, he thinks $40 for a bra is a lot of money...
First, and foremost, it was EXCITING to be able to put these on: last year, I tried, and got them about to my knees. The Shebeast pedal pushers fit too, and were very tempting, but I just couldn't do two in one day, and I need to decide between pedal pusher length and full length tights, I think, at least for this year.
Thing was, I have the REI brand and Canari brand shorts that I paid about $20 for, and that was okay, until I started riding farther. Maybe it's partly that the snug fit has worn off too?
Anyhow, I tried these new shorts today for the first time. Yesterday, the smaller of the two XL-cheapo pair for 23 miles, and today the new Attack shorts. At first sit, my bones bothered me a bit, but I quickly got settled comfortably on my saddle, and never noticed those bones again. Pretty much never noticed any bit of my saddle the whole ride, which was way cool!
So, that's my opinion of the important part of the shorts: way cool! I need more of these, and am wondering if they'll still be on sale on september 5, or if I need to sneak down into town tomorrow for a second pair.
On the other hand: they're a bit shorter than my old ones, this will cause new tan lines. This is no big deal. A little bit more challenging, but for the really comfy bottom I'll deal: the waist is a bit below my belly button. the old ones go up much higher, and stay there. This just below the belly button style isn't exactly ideal on this belly -- at least not yet! They wanted to roll down. Anyone familiar with the feeling of rolled lycra? Eventually, I got enough belly stuffed into the shorts that they stayed put, or something, so I can deal with this issue, but for a while, I was contemplating cutting the waistband off, and sewing some of the top of the old shorts onto these -- because yes, I do love the most important part of these!
