Runing Coaching- Update- Week 13- Back to no running.

    RUNNING COACH WEEK 13:

Well, I am back to not running again.

Our meeting today started with the "sports massage", or the "Let's find the spots that hurt the most and dig my thumb into it, until you scream". Yes, painful... but in an odd way, I rather like it. HA!

Then I did some drills barefooted and I am to complete these drills 4 times/4 sets each time, over the following week:

Walk in the side of my foot with my arch raised and my toes touching the group. Walk forwards and backwards.

Walk with my heels up and knees bent, forwards and backwards.

Stand on one leg, and reach with opposite foot to the front and both sides.

Do a kickback with my leg to work my glute.

Lean against the wall with my feet staggered. Raise up in a horizontal motion.

Back to no running, and completing a 5K by 9-17-06 is looking pretty dismale. Oh well. What can I do?
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside thoroughly used-up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!!"

Bummer, KSH, but at least you have some exercises you can do that might help with your pain. I know it's tough to have to lay off for awhile, though. I fractured my pelvis in a cycling accident in April '05 and was just thrilled to be riding on the trainer two months later and walking without a walker or crutches nearly three months later. It seemed like an eternity at the time, but now it really seems so long ago! Fifteen months later, I'm jogging a little (I never call what I do running, since I only go about 5 mph!), starting to mountain bike, and I completed an 18 mile day hike in the Grand Canyon in May.

Why am I telling you all this? Just to give you hope for the future. You might be hurting now, but someday I bet you'll be doing those runs and tris that you aspire to, and this will all seem very long ago.

Hang in there! I've enjoyed reading your posts and keeping up with your quest. You'll get there; it just may not be a straight and narrow road, but one paved with twists and turns, and a bit of gravel. Kinda like life, huh?

Wow, truly interesting drills there. I had to stop and think and visualize each one!
