I met this guy, on line, who was like a thousand years younger than me. I think we might have gone to a movie, and dinner at some Italian place. Later, we made out on the couch for hours, but we never "did it." Of course, he never called me back. That was 9-11. THE 9-11.

You'll feel a lot better if you have a glass of wine and WATCH THE EAGLE.

Had me a big ol' glass of Red Hook Extra Special Bitter, does that count? (mmmmmm, beeeeeeer)

Watchin' my doggie beg for a taste of my nachos. Not quite as diginfied as an eagle! In fact, no dignity at all. (good lord, he's DROOLING)

Come on over to my house! I got more beer!

I went. I watched the eagle. I believe it was Mr. Eagle, based on hairdo. I enjoy writing "eagle" and "hairdo" in the same sentence, thank you, Nanci.

Yes, this thread has drifted. Ahem. Back to running. No shame in walking the Danskin tri. The only shame, appearantly, comes when *I* walk during my "runs"! argh. I have started doing what I call intervals, who knows if they really are--I just run faster for a block, or half a block, then walk to recover, then run my usual pace. I could stand to have a more organized way to train, but I do OK.

Nanci, really what do you think of the Bog Snorkelling Triathlon?!?
PS: If one of your memories of 9/11 is that of making out for hours with a much younger man, then you're way ahead of most of us.

Actually, my first memory of 9-11 is going to Surgical Intensive Care, and there's a big commotion, with everyone gathered at the foot of a patient's bed where the TV is. I'm told a plane has hit the WTC, but then, everyone mostly thought it was a horrible accident. I called down to my department and told the person at the desk to go to the lounge and watch TV right now. Then, while we were still at the foot of the bed in SICU, the second plane hit- I saw it live.

Bog snorkeling looks a lot easier than swimming!!! I'd do that if they had it here.

I bought my first car on 9-11.

As for the thread "drift"... I think this was more a case of pulling a handbrake turn and speeding off in the other direction. Mea culpa - I think it was the bog snorkelling that did it.

    Jumped the Shark

I think this thread jumped the shark at the mention of Trail Swimming!

    ****************

Jumping the shark is a metaphor that has been used by US TV critics and fans since the 1990s to denote the tipping point at which a TV series is deemed to have passed its peak. Once a show has "jumped the shark," fans sense a noticeable decline in quality or feel the show has undergone too many changes to retain its original charm.

The phrase was popularized by Jon Hein on his website jumptheshark.com. It alludes to a scene in the TV series Happy Days when the popular character Fonzie, on water skis, literally jumps over a shark.

So, is abbie back with luka????

(The only thing i remember about 9-11 is logging onto the bbc thinking i'd find the normal whirlwind of news...OH was i wrong...thought WTF??? Turned on tv & oh...)

My gramma passed away a few weeks later.. I never had a chance to say goodbye...

This thread was about running...(Reminds me to ask our coach if our session is still on next tues am due to ANZAC day. tlkiwi are you going to the dawn service???)

I doubt it. The one here starts at 5.00am and, given that it's not a public holiday here and I'd have to have left the house by 4.00am (at least), I don't think I could make it through the work day! If I don't work, I don't get paid, so no spontaneous days off for me at present (gotta save for the summer hols).

So glad you don't mind the thread drift! I, seriously, did think--I hope Brina's not pissed that we hijacked her "I hate running" thread!

May I just say that I do hate running right now? It may be because I just haven't really run that much over the winter, usually 6-7 miles a week, less some weeks. Or maybe I just need new shoes. I do think I need new shoes, but that's not really it. I need to run with a friend more often. It's my head that quits long before my heart, lungs, or legs.

My ex-partner, the abusive one, bought a Beemer not too long before the end of our relationship. I was on the title, for "my own security". On the title means on the loan, of course. We'd been apart for about 8 months when I got the call from the finance company. "You're two months behind on your BMW payments." "I don't own a BMW." "You're on the loan." Long story short, to save my own credit, I ended up paying it off, giving my ex my car in exchange for the BMW. That was a $16,000 mistake. I called that car "The Resentmobile". Finally traded it in for a lovely Chevy Malibu.

I always loved Jags, they are such pretty cars. Now I actually grimace when I see one. Sigh. For such a smart woman, I can be so...foolish sometimes. L.
