What?? Stupid stuff said to cyclist

Out on the road bike yesterday, wearing usual road bike clothing. At a red light, a random dude in a car lowers his window and asked me for directions as he was a bit lost. I gave him directions, and actually pointed to the building he was looking for. He thanked me for the directions, and then asked if I had a pen so he could write them down. LMAO!! Dude seriously??!! I'm not wearing underwear never mind carrying a pen lol.
I ended up giggling for the rest of my ride.

I keep a pen in my top tube bag. I started keeping it in my bag in case I wanted to take notes on cue sheets when a correction or clarification is needed for future reference. I figure it might come in handy in other situations, too. We recently used it to write down directions for some cyclists who needed to double back after they missed a turn on a big club ride and ended up on the longer route when they really wanted the shorter route.

I have a golf pencil in my bag, so it's not that unusual.

I'd never think to bring a pen, either...but the golf pencil idea is great!

I can't imagine taking a pen or pencil. If I ever had to make a note I'd use my phone.
