    Basketball after 10 years

Today one of the ladies I work with wanted to try out the gym I started going to. She loves to play basketball and plays in a city league for a couple of months out of the year. I told her no problem I haven't played in a while but I will get you a guess pass and we will go shoot some hoops.

Lesson #1: If you haven't picked up a basketball in 10 years (or played since you broke your elbow a couple of years ago), DON'T play with someone who plays in a city league every year.

Lesson #2: Don't play with someone who says they aren't in the best of shape (yeah right) and can run circles around you.

Lesson#3: That person who could shoot three point shots 10 yrs ago can't even hit the rim from that distance now (so don't embarrass your self trying).

Lesson #4: Rebounding your own missed shots is the real workout not shooting the ball through the net.

Last but not least, Lesson#5 actually running after those rebounds is not an option.

Just a little story for those who need a laugh!!
You don't have to be the fastest to go the distance.

Lesson #6: That satisfying sound of the ball going through the net? Just as satisfying 10 years later.

Lesson #7: Go have fun. Even if you might look silly. Even if you aren't as good as you used to be. Even if the person you are with is better than you.

This morning at the gym I got drafted to be the 6th person in a bit of 3 on 3. At 42, I was the youngest player by at least 30 years. Found I could run them into the ground, but couldn't catch a pass or make one either, and forget about getting the ball anywhere near the hoop! But it was a lot of fun, and those old guys are a blast. Don't know if they'll be asking me to play anytime soon, though!

#6 is true but I didn't hear a lot of that sound.....I did enjoy the ringing sound of the ball bouncing off the rim though.
#7 I did have a lot of fun and did look silly, but I didn't care it was different then doing something cycling related.
