Bye Bye Cruiser, Hello MTN bike!!!

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Well, I FINALLY got to ride my new LaJolla Cruiser. DH was close at hand because it's been two years since I put my "plop" on any bike....just in case I crashed and burned, ya know....

Well, a little wobbly but the main problem was I COULDN'T FIND THE HANDBRAKES!!!! Then it dawned on me as I used my feet to STOP the bike.....THERE AREN'T ANY!!!! I had coaster brakes, which I haven't used in FIFTY YEARS!

Tried to ride the darn brand new, shiny thing with fancy white walls....NOPE...the old brain (what's left of it at 62) kept looking for those handbrakes!! Also, it was a pain to peddle my 300 lbs around! (yes, I know that's a LOT...)..but soon it will be LESS!

MY knees immediately rebelled and started yelling, [COLOR="Red"]"]"Where's the gears, GEARS?......shift down PLEASEEEEEEEE! This is hurting!!!"[/COLOR

Okay so, back to the store went my brand new bike....and then the really fun part was trying out different mountain bikes...Big mistake to wear baggy pants.. (Picture me getting hung up on the narrow saddle fronts just trying to get off and not being able to dismount! I almost fell on and killed a kid nearby......)

I got so exhausted I had to go out and eat some junk food to compose myself ....This is really hard!!! Hubby was patient and actually didn't complain that I wanted to go BACK and try again..... and I did.

So, I came home with a perty blue Mountain bike, and still haven't been able to ride it---we have this thing called DANGSNOW in Yewtah and it keeps coming around every time I want to ride.

Plus DH has to inflate the tires, change out the seat, put on the flag pole (to warn kids, dogs and passerbyers to AVOID my path) and then raise the stem a bit....and he REFUSES to do this in SNAIN..... (snow + rain simultaneously in what we Yewtahns call Sprinter.....= Spring/Winter...)

So....maybe by the time I am 63!! I should get to ride the dangthing!! But I am gonna no matter what and I know those nice little low gears will make music with my bad knees....and I will sail on!

Here I thought I could go back 50 years and ride a one speed with coaster brakes...NO!! My brain has learned to like handbrakes and multiple gears and totally refuses to RELEARN anything....besides now DH and I both have MTn bikes and I can go offroad!!!! yee hah!

Gonna take the old broken road racer bike up to Yellow's one of these days and see if she can replace the cables on handbrakes and then I will be the proud owner of TWO BIKES!!! Yeehaah! (this is NOt Yewtahn...it's hick, from WA state boonies...sorry)

Stay tuned later for the maiden ride on my new mtn bike.... Sure to have some delightfully embarassing stories to share!
