Yes, I know, a rude thread title, but really... read this: http://girlonabicycle.blogspot.com/2...y-sort-of.html

Just came across it (actually from another blog), and .... wow. Am glad she's okay and that the guy got caught, and I hope the courtroom is packed. I'm going to try to be there.

That is crazy, sounds like the guy was a complete moron! I'm glad there were consequences and wish more instances like this had them.

Yeah, but it's too bad the consequences the court is meting out don't include any for threatening the cyclist. Still, he got caught and there were plenty of other things to charge him with. "Complete moron" sounds about right!

Is it people or our legal system?

Here's another type article where the pursuit of justice for a bicyclist victim seems way, way, way unbelievable.

    http://bikeportland.org/2011/06/23/s...activism-55360

She was hit, driver gets out, looks at victim, gets back into vehicle and hits her again. This is deeemed no fault because the driver "panic'd".

Wow. There's no negligent driving statute in Mississippi?? How about assault with a deadly weapon? Attempted murder? (Because, ya know, running over someone who is already lying on the ground because you hit them with your car seems to me to be attempted murder...)

I think someone is just not trying hard enough to charge this driver.

    Wow.

    Wow.
I agree. Hitting her was likely negligent. The second hit at a minimum was reckless and would justify a felony charge.

I trust the woman who was hit will sue. However, what she gets if she doesn't settle is going to depend on a jury and judging from some of the local comments not everyone is friendly to cyclists.
