I've had pretty much the same hair style for three or four yrs now, so with the heat of summer not long off (already got a good taste of the humidity), I decided it was time for a change.. So I called my stylist this morning and made an appointment.
My hair was was down to the middle of my back... Now it bearly hits the collar of my shirt.
The stylist DID cut more then I'd asked for, but in the end I'm ok with it... I think... Guess it's too late now anyhow!

Oh my, that's a drastic changeBut, it's hair and it will grow back. That's the nice part of scissor-happy stylists. You might find that you like it short.

How fun! What kind of cut did you get?
Everyone always laughs b/c I cut mine off in the winter and grow it out in summer. It just takes too long to dry when it's cold out!
It might be drastic but there are always different things you can do to it (not just however your stylist styled it). I bet you'll get used to it quickly. Let us know how you feel about it in a few days![]()

Just got my haircut yesterday. Yes, it's abit short, but within 3 wks. it will grow into the right length for me. (I have fast growin' hair on my head.) It was drizzlin' rain, but I biked home with my helmet on...for 15 min.It was still fine.
Here I am. In this photo, I didn't have to curl it and I have straight hair. I got off my bike temporarily for that photo.
This is what a fantastic, properly chosen short hairstyle can do for a person. The length that you see in the photo, is the best looking length on me. It lasts for about 2-2.5 months. And NO blow drying nor curling iron/rollers which is a serious feat for my hair. Then 3rd month onward, it requires some blow drying or touch up with curling iron (5 min. or less).
Last time I had long hair hitting my shoulders and beyond was when I was 19.
The older one gets, the more I think a woman should pay attention to a haircut/style that makes her look lively and chic. It transforms a face --beyond make-up

Good for you, Roadtrip! I'm still growing into my short hair. Not that it ever was that long, being curly, but for several decades now I've had "lots of hair". Now I just have grey tufts that curl straight up in the morning, but can be tamed into a halfway decent wavy hairstyle. It takes a while to get used to. Short is a lot more work than I thought...

My hair has been driving me nuts and it's short, been short for many years. I recently let the top grow out just a little; it's been really frizzy, despite using expensive "wax," and a conditioner, shampoo for color treated hair. My hairdresser suggested I use a hair oil and voila! I had some at home, but hadn't used it properly, a year a go. The oil (just a dab), some wax, and I am good to go.
And my hair is awful. That's why it's short.

Ditto. I always wanted to wear long hair, but every time I grew it out, it just looked bad. It's wavy, tends to frizz, and never looks like the pretty shiny hair you see in ads. Now that it's graying, it's even curlier, still frizzy, and wilder than ever. Definitely needs to be short and will stay short until I die!![]()

Glad Crankin that oil works for you.
Not for I. That's what I've spent half my life washing out of my hair!! I suppose the good thing by now later in life, the natural oil gives my hair a subtle shine since hair texture gets abit drier as one ages.
Now that I'm living in the prairies, the air here is much drier. In fact, amazingly for me, when my hair is longer, after lst blow dry and curling iron touch up, the next day in morning, I don't have to do anything but brush my hair in place. The hair waves have been "preserved"/kept for me.
To me, that is truly amazing convenience for someone with naturally straight hair.
Whereas living in Ontario and British Columbia, where there was abit more moisture in air, I had to deal with putting in a bit of wave/curl each morning (when my hair grew abit longer out from a short cut.).

I can definitely empathize! I hadn't had a cut in 7 months so I was severely overdue, but I really loved how long my hair had gotten. Anyways, I had about 3" cut, and now I've got a bit of "haircut remorse". It'll grow, but I really loved how feminine I felt with my long, wavy hair.
I once went to a hair cut school - only this was for fully accredited hairstylists wanting more training. Anyhow, I told her she could do anything, provided I can still tie my hair. When she was done, I was nearly in tears because not only could I not tie my hair, it was like a friggin bowling ball! it was so puffy and round and just... ugh.
Instead of them being sympathetic, the manager of the program berated ME for not expressing my wishes. Obviously I was not a repeat customer.

(sorry, your thread title had that song in my head in no time flat).
I have beautiful hair, super thick and gorgeous when long. But I don't feel like I look like ME with long hair, it was always in my way and I would wrap it in funky ponytails to keep it away from my face. It's almost boy-short again now, and I love it. It has a bit of curl to it, which is a tad challenging to cut, but I've figured it out now so a little gel and I'm on my way. (
I cut it myself most of the time, unless there's something important coming up, then I call my super-talented Hairboy up. He sighs a bit at me, pokes a little fun, but it's just hair. If I mess it up, it grows.

Aww. That is no fun! I got hair like that when she was done cutting, but in my case I'd just specified "take all of the dye off, and I'll grow it out later". But I did get sort of bug-eyed seeing the scissors come back, and back, and back... And then she tried to pull the curls out neatly and arrange them, and they just got tighter and rounder until I had one of those bombproof short curly home perms beloved by housewives in the early 60s... so finally I just bust out laughing and said "It looks TERRIBLE! But it's not your fault! I'll go home and fix it"
