Minor wipeout today on my bike

Out riding with DH this morning, just toolin' along a usual route for us and out of nowhere WHAM! I must have gotten my front tire wedged into a large crack in the road, and that was all she wrote. I felt a sudden "jerk" and the next thing I know...my bike is folding underneath me. I went down hard on my right side and slid for a good distance on the pavement before coming to a rest on a grassy area on the side of the road. Luckily, this didn't happen on a busy road. A few cars passed by and asked if we needed help (which was nice). I did manage to get myself back on my bike (no damage) and ride the 15 or so miles back home...albeit very slowly . I have some scrapes and mild bruising on my right knee and a nice, huge honkin' area of road rash on my upper outer right thigh. I'm sure that thing will take weeks to heal up. Oh joy! I took some Aleve and went straight into the shower when we got home, and boy oh boy did that sucker sting like a mutha when that water hit it! I've been icing it all afternoon, which feels soothing. I'm sure it'll feel REAL good by tomorrow morning.

Arnica gel. Pretty much the best stuff ever for bruises. I'm glad you're okay. Take it easy and feel better!

OWWWW! So sorry this happened! Glad you didn't break any bones, though. And nice that your bike is okay. Small silver lining there!

ouchhhhh glad you're okay... were you clipped in?
Life goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, and do whatever you want all the time, you could miss it.

Yes, I was clipped in...but as soon as I hit the ground, my feet automatically unclipped. Infact, in all of my prior falls (I've had about 3), there was never a time where my feet didn't unclip instantly from the moment the bike started to go down.

Arnica is good for bruises, but not on broken skin. Ouch.

owie, made me shiver reading about it but glad I got to the end and you didn't mention any broken bones or mangled bike. I felt the sting when you mentioned shower. Yikes!

    Feel better soon.

Oh boy, those cracks in the road, you just never know. It's one of those things I'm always paranoid about, with riding 23c tires. Glad you didn't get hurt too seriously. Feel better soon.

Ouch, Linda! That happened to a friend of mine and he ended up with a busted collarbone. You are so fortunate you have no broken bones. Those cracks in the road are wicked.

    Hope you heal up soon!

    Ouch. Heal up soon.

You can massage arnica or Traumeel into the bruises while avoiding the road rash. And/or you can take the internal form (drops or sublingual tablets).

    +1 on the Arnica.
Hope you rest well. Try some gentle stretching as you heal. Road rash gets stiff (said from experience).
