A very sad day. Tim worked at my LBS, even helped to build my bikes. I'm fondly remembering conversations. He was a very smart, witty man, and amazingly skilled mechanic. RIP Tim.

I am so sorry. Something like that really shakes up the cycling community. The shop owner of one of our LBS's was killed last year in a similar incident. He was an excellent cyclist and a true advocate of safe cycling. It really hits home that no one is immune.

Accidents like this makes me both sad and mad.

Sad at loss of life. Sad that someone who for no fault of his loses his life. Sad that people driving the car do not take driving as a very serious business.

We call this an accident when it is anything but an accident. Call it for what it is inattention to driving, disregard to public safety (to begin with). It just makes me angry that our society is more than willing to call it an accident and that it was just unfortunate thing to happen. NO!!! It happened because well its okay not to pay attention to driving, its okay not to maintain situational awareness.

To Trek, to the family and to the friends, there is no rhyme or reason to everyday events in our lives. A very tragic event like this just reinforces the fact that we have to live each day as something special. We just don't know what can happen ahead of time.

In his memory, we should remind ourselves that each day is special, that we should cherish each day, and that we should not allow ourselves to waste a day of our lives. In his memory, we should remind our loved ones how we love them and care for them. And if we are are angry then work out the difference.

    peace,

Yes he did. A very nice guy. I think even after he left Robinson's he would Be around when Chris needed an extra set of hands.

From the comments below the article, it sounds like the driver may have been on a cell phone. No big surprise.

Such a tragedy. This could have been so many of us here who ride on the roads. Or our spouses, our best friends.

My condolences, too. This is so sad.

When will there be a Share the Road PSA that includes bicycles? A national safe driving campaign that brings this message home?

I'm sorry to hear this. What a sad and senseless thing to happen. I agree that there really should be a law or something that makes negligence such as this punishable. I know she did not intentionally drift into the bike lane, but seriously...
