mardi gras century - ventura

there is a century this weekend.... it's the first year of doing it.. but it sounds like it will be nice... fun... and of course.. i love riding in that area.. so i'm more than willing to have hubby drive us there!

it's the mardi gras century.... 100, 61 and 25 miles.. according to their site and an email i got... only 2200 feet of climbing.. 2 hills... on short and steeper... on longer and not as steep....

the price is steep (well.. same price as palm springs).. BUT... you get a barbecue at the end! 4 rest stops (on the century)...

anyways.. just wanted to post it here in case any of you live in the area and want to do it!

hubby is gonna ride this one with me instead of sprinting off on his own! i'll take pics cuz i know it's gonna be purdy! (he's warned me he's gonna push me to work harder.. no sandbagging! meanie!)

BC.. if you read this... when we ride through camarillo i'll yell out "HEY LITTLE K" and maybe he'll hear me! (he's LITTLE k now! cuz he's definitly NOT big! )

oh wait... he won't be there... butterfield is this weekend! oh well.. i'll still say HEY! lol!

I'm not familiar with the cycling club. Uncertain on how well or organized they would be putting on a century. First time centuries always have some issues but oh well, the routes look cool. I've ridden most of not all of each route. The climbing issue is deceptive. Most of it is all together as the coast routes are flat. There's climbing coming out of Camarillo to Moorpark and also through Ojai and Santa Paula. Century should be beautiful and wewather forecast (if it doesn't rain) should be perfect! Expect a full report!

ya.... i'm a little worried about the weather... now that i've paid....

i wanted to do it cuz i do love that area so much... at least any of the other rides we've driven down there to do!

it's not the club's first century.. it's the first year for the mardi gras... they also do the 3 harbors.. which i know i looked at doing last year.. but don't remember why we didn't (probably cuz we'd already driven to too many!)

if it is raining and bad... we can get a raincheck for the 3 harbors this year.. so that's good! but i'm REALLY HOPING that it's nice so we can ride it!

well, POO! we're being cautious and taking advantage of their offer of a "rain check" for this ride... currently 70% chance of rain.... all day and COLD! i already don't like to ride in the cold... add wet to it.. and... well.. YUCK!

so now we'll be doing 3 harbors in july instead (already planned on it anyways! but now it's already paid for!)

i should have known better than to schedule a ride on "butterFLOOD" weekend!

sorry Caligurl! That ride looked pretty cool! Where we are is not as hot generally as where you are, but the longer I'm here the more I dislike the whole cold/wet thing! ... so, I don't blame you for taking that raincheck! My second Cinderella (eons ago) it was cold and rainy... we finished but it took me hours (pretty much the rest of the day) to get warm again! Yuck!

Well, at least you'll get to enjoy the one in July... by then, the coast will probably be a nice change. BTW, do you train out in the summer sun or do you wait until it gets a little cooler? ... just curious!

out in the sun! on weekends... i do get up early (well.. i get up early weekdays and weekends all year long! ) but i get riding early cuz then i still have the whole day to to stuff after.. whether it's to go shopping or just hang out at home.... i HATE riding later in the day in the winter cuz it cuts into my day

after work... i come home.. change and ride.. on the road by 4:30.. which unfortuntately is around the hottest part of the day! but there again.. i don't like coming home and hanging out.. then riding... cuts up the evening.. easier to motivate myself to come home.. change.. and GO! on RARE... very RARE occasions.. like when it's super hot and humid both... i will wait til about 6 or 6:30 p.m..... since it's safer... that way....

to me the 60's is cool... 50's is down right COLD! and 40's.. i avoid them like the plaque! 30's... ain't happening! (well.. i did hope for snow at least one day this year cux i wanted to go ride my mtb around the block in it! but it wouldn't have been a long ride at all!)

i get miserable when it's sunny and cold... and end up wanting to turn around and head home! hubby and i were doing a nice ride in the national park... and, of course, it's colder up there.. higher elevation.... i was feeling good... but then it got cold.. i got cold.. and so we turned around! i'm such a baby! but one does get aclimated.. heck.. i'm from new york... land of cold and snow! you'd think i could handle a little rain, eh? nope.... not anymore! (i keep my heat set at 78 when i need it! i'm soooo spoiled! BRRRRRRRRRRRRr)
