We have snow

Apparently it is a fairly rare thing for us to get snow here in Jacksonville, NC. At least that is what I've been told. I grew up in Ohio, and lived the past 10 years in Charlotte, NC where we had at least a small amount of snow every year. We got around 3/4 of an inch.

I'll trade you your 3/4" for the almost 2' we're expecting. Tried to walk Chloe earlier (who loves snorking through the snow) but with the wind along with the snow, she looked like the Abominable Snow Dog in just a few minutes and bolted for the door to be let back in.

This is crazy. We have over a foot in Upstate NY. I'm so glad I asked for cross country skis for Christmas!

It was funny reading an article in the paper on line yesterday about all the locals (those who have always lived here) running to whatever stores were open yesterday (mostly gas stations) to buy milk because of the possibility of snow. Apparently some of the Marines thought it was funny too since two of them were interviewed for the article and couldn't believe it. The roads weren't bad at all, they were only wet, yet people who don't see snow are afraid of them. Now tomorrow morning will be another story as I am sure they will ice up over night. There is very little equipment here to deal with snow or ice. I've seen one salt truck and I would be surprised if there city had a snow plow.
I enjoyed the snow today, but my idea is if it has to be this cold at least let me have a small bit of snow. I just don't like the cold and don't like the snow on the ground for 5 months a year.

I watched on FaceBook as all my southern friends posted with excitement about the possibility of a white Christmas...and I'm thinking " gee, it's a certainty for me...and after two weeks of it, I'm ready for it to all melt!"

We have about a foot so far. The wind is blowing ferociously, although it is not that cold (28 F) out. I think we're in a lull, though. Looking at the radar, it appears more snow is coming. Thankfully, it's snowing up north, so I will have snow to x country ski on when I go to Jackson, NH on Thursday.
I haven't heard a snow plow on my street yet, which is quite unusual, since it's a hill and is kept well plowed, sanded, and salted. I guess because school isn't in session, they aren't in a rush. I have always wanted to ski down my street, and I might just get to do it today, if I can get my azz out the door before the plows. Otherwise, I will hike down the street to the trail and ski there.

Well, apparently h*ll has frozen over because I officially have a snow day today. My agency never closes down due to weather but did so today.
My car is plowed in (thanks plow dude!) and it's going to take a while to dig it out (there's over a foot of snow and it's still coming down).

When I brought Chloe out this morning all you could see was part of her tail slicing through the snow . Kind of freaked her out.

It's been a crazy December here in KY, very cold and snowy. We got about 4 inches of snow on Christmas Eve; made for a very pretty morning! But I'm getting sick of wearing long underwear all the time....

But it's looking to be in the 50's for New Year's eve/day and everyone's excited

The snowmen that we built in the garden a few days before Christmas are just starting to melt now. The thaw is set to continue for a few days, and I'm hoping to be back on the bike at the end of the week. I'd love to squeeze in one more ride before the end of 2010.

Looks like we ended up with about 2 feet of snow all said and done. Now we have a wicked wind blowing it all around.

Yeah... i think that was the first and only white Christmas in SC. It just made more homesick (originally from MN). My bf looked at the weather maps on Christmas and just said that the whole east coast was in one big storm system.

Its true though, when in snows in the south, people run out to buy milk and bread. Why? I have no idea. Wouldn't you think that you should buy non perishable foods? Canned things?

When it snows down here I'm more terrified of the stupid drivers who don't know how to drive in the snow and still have "summer" tires on their cars. Last year a stupid truck driver jackknived on a bridge one exit south of Hendersonville, NC and I was stuck on the freeway for three hours. Missed my reservation at the Biltmore. I was NOT happy.

About 22" here, and cold. 15F right now, and also this morning when I walked a mile into town and back to open and man the food pantry. Looking forward to the same tomorrow...my car is still buried.
