What do you think of having a trading thread?

I just read the post below about trading a computer for some panniers and it got me thinking ...

In this difficult economy, wouldn't it be nice to have a thread dedicated to people wanting to trade cycling items? No money would have to change hands at all. Each trader would pay her own shipping charges.

Do other people like this idea?

Susan, would TE be willing to consider creating a trading thread? I would think that the only restriction might be that the trade has to be cycling-related items.

I, for one, would be willing to trade some items that I don't want or need anymore, for other items that I would really use. (I could see this working really well trading different types of saddles).

Do you think that this is a feasible idea?

Trust me, if everyone thinks that this is a stupid idea, my feelings won't be hurt.

I just wanted to put the question out there.

    So... what do you think?

I like the idea too. The knitting board I'm on has a dedicated subforum for it!

I'm the one who put up the trade request

I think a trade thread would be great as I was not sure where to put my request. I must admit, I first tried to sell the computer and had no takers. I also was willing to give it away but wanted to try a trade first because I have been hankering for a set of panniers but did not have the money for a new pair.

This turned out to be a win-win situation. I got a response to my request quickly and the exchange is in progress!

Trades are great. It would work for me to list them in this same place--at least until it gets too big.

I think trading is great, but I don't like wading through long threads. I'd rather see individual posts.

I agree, Pam. I think a dedicated sub category would be nice.
I would love to do this. There have been so many times I buy something and don't like it, or it doesn't work out and I'd love to trade it for something else. Great idea!

How nice to see all the positive comment!

    So, what's the next step?

I really haven't thought this through yet, I just wanted to find out what people thought of the idea ...

Should I send a PM to Susan and ask her to read this thread and see what her feelings are about thisif it is doable?

I agree that I would like for the thread to be set up like this one with a separate posting for each trade. The goal would be to keep each post short and sweet.

You could just put in the title of the post what item you are trading and also what you want.

    I think this could work!

    Just start your thread:

TRADE: widget I don't want for widget I want
    naming each widget
    or
    TRADE: This (describe) for ?
Then include in post items you'd consider
    or
FS or TRADE: Thing I have for $ or thing you have
