Red face Very new repeat rider

Hey all. I am looking to begin riding... I have my bike and my trainer. I had been pretty sick for a good time and am looking forward to getting back into riding. I hate riding on a trainer, however I will in the winter as it's just too windy and cold outside. Do you all have any suggestions on how to get back into the grove of things? Or any good training schedules for beginners?

    Thanks so much!

I'm in a similar situation. Was a seasonal commute rider until I got sick years and years ago. Am just now trying to get back into it, thanks to some encouragement from another TE member, my younger sister. I'm also off the road for now due to winter weather. I'm finding spin class to be fun, good exercize, and a place I can work on technique. Maybe there's a good spin instructor somewhere near you too ...?
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

howdy keebs and welcome to the board. If you get a chance, check out the thread under open titled "getting to know you". Tells you all about us and gives you a chance to tell us some more about you - if you're so inclined.

As for getting back into biking: like bikeless (no more), try spin classes as a change of pace from the trainer. There are also spin videos you can get to pump up your trainer workouts. If you've been sick for awhile (or even if you haven't), always always always listen to your body - it's better to sit out a day or two then to overstrain and end up sidelined. When I pick something up or get back into something, I always think in groups of 2 or 3: I ran/rode this far today, if I can do that same distance this comfortably 2 more times (or 3 more times) in a row then I'm ready to increase. "in a row" doesn't necessarily days in a row. good luck and keep us posted! and welcome back to the wonderful world of cycling!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"
