Macbook Charger

I'm not quite desperate, but I thought I'd give this a shot before I get to that point. I have a Macbook which I think requires the 60 watt (volt?) charger with the magsafe end. Mine is slowly becoming broken, right where the cord meets the magsafe end.

I'm wondering if anyone has an old charger lying around that they would be willing to part with? I'll pay half of the new retail price (which is $79!).

Unfortunately my old one is about dead as well since I kept charging my MB Pro with it (which apparently draws 65W, OOPS).

Anyway, have you looked into the aftermarket ones? If your computer is outside of warranty then it won't make a difference and there are some reliable ones out there for cheaper than Apple's insane price. (If it is under warranty Apple should just hand you a new cord).

Hi- I had a similar problem-

I bought two replacements off of Ebay, one to leave at work and one for home. One was a Chinese knock-off, but seems to be working, and cost about $25. One was a genuine Apple charger, new, and cost $49. Both were "buy it now" items.

I bought a Chinese knock-off macbook charger a few weeks ago when my original Apple one shorted out. I think it was about $10 with shipping and it works fine, BUT it will not work with the extension cord like the Apple charger will. If you just plug it into the wall it's fine, but I always used the extender and now I feel tethered to the outlet.

Ugh, I'm on my third power adapter for my Macbook (which I've had for about four years). The current one is starting to get that kink, but it's still working, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It's such a poor design. Also frustrating is that when you replace them, instead of warrantying the adapter separately, the part goes under the warranty of your computer, even if you bought it separately/later. The last power adapter (which I bought two years AFTER I bought my computer) lasted for about six months, but since my Applecare had recently expired, I couldn't get any break from the warranty. They ought to be warrantied individually for at least a year, don't you think?

Wow, i've never had a problem and my MacBook is 3 years old. I do leave it plugged in most of the time, so not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks, I did find one on amazon for about $40 and it happened to be sold by a friend of mine! I forgot she was in the business.

I have had a variety of issues with mine. All but one dog related.
It's been piddled and chewed on by puppies. Still works after 3+ years.

A year and a half ago I left my computer in a crowded room plugged into the wall and when I unplugged it the prongs seemed to be loose. Not sure what happened in my absence. Well, they got wobblier over time and then independent of each other and I had to support the prongs each time I plugged in. I was afraid I was going to electrocute myself! Then I remembered my DH had two cord for his and only used one of his short prongs. He gave it to me. I feel safer now but this weekend my adult male dog knocked it out of the outlet and bent one of the prongs. I am afraid it is all starting over.

Hope you get a cheap solution.
