I got close a couple weeks ago when I made a 75 mile ride. If the daylight and my knees had cooperated, I REALLY wanted to stretch the ride. Other than the colder weather making my knees uncomfortable, I think I COULD have done it.
I WILL have my first century as soon as possible next season unless I can figure out a way to sneak it in during the winter. I have 7 metrics under my belt now and I wanted to get another last Saturday, but again daylight (lack of) and cold knees slowed me down. If I can manage it all I WILL try for at least ONE more metric before the end of the year.
YOU inspired me to try my first. Remember, I want to be YOU when I grow up.

Sounds like you need to make yourself some knee warmers...

well shoot - does that mean I gotta grow up now?? - as for riding in the cold, it just takes longer and yeah - that daylight thing is kind of a bear to work with but I have all the faith in you girl!
Don't tell Surly but it was 22 with a wind chill of 18 during my morning commute today - I looked like the Michelin Man!!!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"

Mary thank you for your post. I was just mumbling and grumbling to my friends that I don't fit into any of my "cute" clothes after having my baby girl. You post has inspired and encouraged me to keep living healthfully.
Here's a pic of my daughter Sage (6weeks today) and of me, 9 months pregnant with her at my last bike tour before delivery.

Limewave - your daughter is gorgeous. Enjoy those early days they fly by so quickly.

What a gorgeous baby girl. She's just a little younger than my newest grandson Steven. He was born Sept 27.
Enjoy every moment at this age, she'll be grown before you know it.

I have maybe a better idea of what to do with the dress. Keep it, yes! But depending what material it is, perhaps you could have all or part of it made into a jersey? You might have to sew a light liner material into it underneath, but you would be able to wear it as a flag of your weight loss success. What do you think?

And hearty congratulations to you, Mary. You're so awesome and what an inspiration for us! What a beautiful person you must be....

Although I suggested keeping the dress as this fabulous trophy/reminder... I do like bikeMomma's idea of making a cycling jersey from it at some stage - is it the right material?

Hmmm, I may have to check that, there certainly should be enough FABRIC to make a jersey out of it. Of course it may be SPRING before I'd be able to wear it. LOL... I would likely have to line part of it as it's a bit sheer. Although it IS a busy pattern, you couldn't see my bra through the material when I was wearing it and I wasn't wearing a slip... I know TMI
I do think I'll make a jersey out of it! I'll post photos when I get it made... Then when I'm showing off the photo I carry with me of me IN the dress, I can really mean, this is before [pic] and I'm AFTER.. It's all the same dress LOL...

Awesome! Both RoadRaven and Jo's comment about keeping it sorta sparked the lightbulb (did somebody else say it too?? I wanna give full credit....). My mom's an excellent seamstress, so that helped the train of thought. I'm so glad you like the idea....and like llbloomer said, a new pic of you in it will complete the saga.

If it's a "busy" print, perhaps just make the bodice part from it, like a vest, but with a zipper and contrasting collar in a soft non-itchy material (don't wanna itch around the neck). The sleeves can be the same color as the collar, assuming you'd make a long sleeve jersey. Don't forget breathable wicking-type material for the liner and elastic or zippers for the back pockets.

The dress is 100% Rayon so it's a synthetic material all the way. I can hardly wait to see how it turns out now, but I've got several holiday projects I need to work on ASAP before I try the jersey pattern with the dress.
I wonder if Penny has any experience working with Rayon and jerseys??
