This hit and run happened on New Years Eve in Austin, Texas. There was a rally today too try and get more information which my daughter ( a runner not a biker) attended on my behalf. It's getting really scary out there! So far in five years of biking and some very close calls with Texas drivers, I am lucky to be able to say that so far I have done myself more damage than the drivers have, but I ride politely and defensively always hoping that Karma will be on my side but also accepting that I am smaller than they are.

It is always sad when a cyclist is hurt, and a hit-and-run is the worst.
I wish her all the best in her recovery, and hope that she will be able to ride her bike again soon.
However, I would urge everyone to use some common sense to protect themselves. Do I have it correct that she was hit at 2:30am on Jan 1st? This is absolutely the worst time to be on the road (walking, driving, or cycling) because so many people are coming home from new year's celebrations. I avoid the roads at all cost that night, because I assume that everyone around is drunk. I either stay home, take the train for transportation, or stay with friends until the morning. It would be safe to assume that this cyclist was hit by a drunk driver.
Please ladies, don't ride your bikes on the road after the clock strikes midnight on Jan 1, even if cycling is your only mode of transportation. It really isn't safe. It's like riding a bike with a cracked fork. Maybe it'll hold up and you'll be fine, but is it worth the risk?
