    First Ride in Months!

I injured my back pretty badly this Spring, and it has pretty well kept me off a bike since. This morning, however, a friend called me up and said she wanted to do a short, easy ride.

We agreed on eight slightly hilly miles.

A year ago I would have considered that hardly worth getting dressed out for (I still would have gone, I just would have ridden 16 or so before or after my friend and I rode together). But now, I thought that would be a great little starter ride for me. And the day was beautiful.

Apparently everyone in our little group decided they had time to ride today, so we wound up having seven riders total. After drooling over one member's new bike, and explaining that I have not sold Blue Streak (my road bike) but that I was riding Cobalt (a pannier-laden comfort bike) because it was easier on my back, we all took off.

For the first four miles, I was not the last person. I am usually in the lead - but I was just happy to be out riding. Eventually though, I was bringing up the tail with the usual slowpoke in our group, and at mile 5 when there was a split and I could go 8, everyone else split off to keep going. It let me do the last 2 miles home at a super easy pace. I needed it - I was sucking wind so badly!

So anyway - I did it, I'm happy I rode, my back seems ok so far and I want so much to go back out there again. Maybe Friday. Woohoo!

Oh and Cobalt needs a tune-up.

Thanks! I am so mentally ready - just a matter of not pushing too much. I'd love to go for another ride tomorrow but... hey, safe is better than laid up again and sorry.

Maybe we'll have a mild winter and I can keep riding.
