cheap cycle storage

Thanks to everyone that helped us determine what we wanted in our new road bikes! We picked them up and were fitted today. Can't wait to get out there! Can anyone suggest a cheap way to store the bikes? I don't want to leave them out in the shed and exposed to the four seasons, but my basement is not big. I saw the bicycle stands, but those might take up too much room. Anyone hang them from the ceiling? If so what do you use?

I am thinking that you hang it by the tire then? Does it matter front or back?
